FAQ
Which drone operations are permitted in Switzerland without a permit?
In the “open category”: flights below 120 m, within visual line of sight (VLOS), with drones weighing up to 25 kg and without flying over crowds do not require authorisation.
When do I need a permit for my drone?
Whenever you fly outside the “open category”, for example BVLOS (Beyond Visual Line of Sight), or over crowds. These operations fall into the “specific category” and require authorisation from the FOCA.
What is the difference between STS, PDRA and SORA?
- STS: Standard scenarios with fixed rules.
- PDRA: Predefined risk scenarios with clear requirements.
- SORA: Individual risk assessment for complex missions.

How long does it take to get an authorisation?
